The eighth meeting of the Türkiye–Kazakhstan Joint Strategic Planning Group will be held in Ankara on Monday, Feb. 2, under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Kazakh counterpart, Yermek Kosherbayev.
According to information obtained from Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan is expected to note his satisfaction with the level reached in political relations between the two countries, including recent high-level visits and contacts.
Fidan is also expected to discuss steps to further develop cooperation, particularly in trade, economy, investment, energy, transportation, the defense industry, education and humanitarian-cultural fields. In this context, he is set to address efforts aimed at reaching the $15 billion bilateral trade volume target set by the presidents of the two countries.
The foreign minister is expected to emphasize the importance of strengthening cooperation on multilateral platforms, especially within the Organization of Turkic States.
Fidan is also expected to underline the need to enhance connectivity and logistics infrastructure, with a focus on the Trans-Caspian East–West Middle Corridor, and to exchange views on current regional and international developments, including Afghanistan, Iran and the Palestinian issue.
Türkiye–Kazakhstan relations are conducted regularly and effectively at the bilateral level through mechanisms such as the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, the Joint Strategic Planning Group, the Joint Economic Commission and political consultation frameworks.
The fifth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, the most prominent of these mechanisms, was held in Ankara on July 29, 2025, under the co-chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
During that meeting, the two leaders signed a joint declaration and the council’s decision text. Including those documents, a total of 20 cooperation agreements were concluded in areas such as education, energy, mining, transportation, communication, banking, free economic zones, artificial intelligence and space, science and technology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, health, urban development and justice.
Kazakhstan is Türkiye’s largest trading partner in Central Asia. Bilateral trade volume reached $8.95 billion between January and November 2025.
More than 3,000 Turkish-capital companies currently operate across various sectors of the Kazakh economy, with Turkish investors mainly active in food production, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, construction, hospitality and manufacturing.
Kazakhstan is also Türkiye’s third-largest supplier of oil imports, after Russia and Iraq. Energy cooperation between the two countries includes oil, natural gas, renewable energy and logistics and energy transportation.
Türkiye ranks among the largest investors in Kazakhstan’s non-energy sectors. As of 2025, Turkish investments in Kazakhstan totaled about $5.8 billion.
