Türkiye's Foreign Ministry commemorated Saturday the first anniversary of the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist killed by Israel in the occupied West Bank.

Eygi, a Turkish citizen, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers on September 6, 2024, while in the West Bank. The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement marking the anniversary, saying the country remembers Eygi "with mercy and respect."

Ankara vows continued pursuit of accountability

"This attack, which disregards the lives of innocent civilians, is a clear indicator of violations of international law and human rights," the Foreign Ministry said in its statement posted on social media.

The ministry characterized the incident as an assault on innocent civilian life, emphasizing the broader implications for international legal standards in the region.

The ministry emphasized that Türkiye would continue its efforts to ensure accountability for what it described as a "heinous crime" against Eygi's life. "Türkiye will resolutely continue its efforts to ensure that this heinous crime that took Aysenur's life does not go unpunished," the statement said.
