Türkiye and Poland signed a bilateral defense cooperation agreement Monday during an official visit by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz to Ankara.
The “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Defense Between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Poland” was signed with the participation of Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler and his Polish counterpart.
Guler welcomed Kosiniak-Kamysz with a military ceremony upon his arrival at the Ministry of National Defense. The two ministers then held a one-on-one meeting, followed by delegation-level talks co-chaired by Guler and Kosiniak-Kamysz.
After the meetings, both ministers signed the defense cooperation agreement.
Poland was the first NATO country to sign an agreement to purchase Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles from Türkiye, agreeing in 2021 to buy 24 units.
Karolina Wanda Olszowska, co-founder of the Polish think tank Institute of Turkish Studies, has previously said defense cooperation between Türkiye and Poland is both possible and necessary.
“This cooperation between Türkiye and Poland is not only possible but necessary,” Olszowska said earlier.
“During various debates, conferences and discussions, I have encountered the opinion that the Turkish arms sector is developing very quickly, and its quality is improving significantly with more tests,” she added.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Poland Rauf Alp Denktas said earlier in October that Poland holds significant importance for Türkiye’s partnerships within the European Union.
Speaking at the Turkish Embassy in Warsaw, Denktas highlighted ongoing efforts to expand cooperation in areas including defense, economy, tourism and education.
He also emphasized the historical depth of Türkiye-Poland relations, noting that Poland was the first European country to recognize the Republic of Türkiye.
