Türkiye on Wednesday called on all parties in Libya to implement an immediate and lasting cease-fire and to engage in dialogue to resolve ongoing disputes, following renewed violence in the capital, Tripoli.
“We call on all parties to implement a full and lasting cease-fire without delay and to engage in dialogue to settle disputes,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The appeal came after armed clashes erupted in several areas of Tripoli. Ankara is “closely monitoring” the deteriorating situation in and around the capital, the ministry added.
The statement also reiterated Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to a sustainable and lasting resolution..
Libya’s Defense Ministry said a cease-fire took effect Wednesday in Tripoli after the renewed violence. In a separate statement, the ministry said the truce began in all areas facing unrest, as part of efforts “to protect civilians, preserve state institutions, and avoid further escalation.”
The ministry said regular forces, in coordination with security agencies, had taken necessary steps to maintain calm, including the “deployment of neutral units at a number of contact points to ensure stability and prevent any on-the-ground friction.”
The ministry also urged all parties to fully adhere to the cease-fire and avoid any actions that could reignite tensions.
