Türkiye expressed hope Sunday that a comprehensive ceasefire and integration agreement announced by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will advance efforts to establish stability and security in Syria based on the country's territorial integrity and unity.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it hopes the agreement will contribute to the security and peace of the Syrian people as well as the entire region, particularly Syria's neighbors.

"We hope that all groups and individuals in the country fully understand that Syria's future lies not in terrorism and division, but in togetherness, unity and integration, along with the recognition of realities on the ground," the ministry said.

The statement noted that the new era that began in Syria on December 8, 2024, which represents an exceptional opportunity for the country to achieve a prosperous future, is now passing through a critical stage.

Türkiye pledged to continue supporting the Syrian government's counterterrorism efforts and reconstruction work, which it said are being carried out with an inclusive and unifying approach based on the consent of the people.

US welcomes ceasefire agreement as 'pivotal inflection point'

The United States welcomed the ceasefire and integration agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF on Sunday, calling it a significant step toward a unified Syria.

"This agreement and ceasefire represent a pivotal inflection point," US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said on social media platform X, describing it as a moment where former adversaries embrace partnership over division.

In a fuller statement, the United States commended both parties for their constructive efforts in reaching the ceasefire agreement, praising what it described as two great Syrian leaders driven by a shared vision of liberating their country from tyranny who have now come together to forge a brighter future for all Syrians.

"The challenging work of finalizing the details of a comprehensive integration agreement begins now, and the United States stands firmly behind this process at every stage," Barrack said.

The statement said the United States is particularly encouraged by efforts to facilitate the full integration of Kurdish partners into a united, inclusive Syria that safeguards the interests and rights of all its citizens while advancing shared goals of reconciliation and national unity.

Agreement outlines withdrawal and integration process

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced a comprehensive ceasefire and full integration agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF, outlining sweeping measures to restore state authority in the country's northeast.

The SDF is dominated by the YPG, which Türkiye designates as the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization.

According to the terms published by the Syrian Arab News Agency, the agreement provides for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts and contact lines between government forces and the SDF.

The deal is to take effect in parallel with the withdrawal of all SDF-affiliated military formations to areas east of the Euphrates River as a preparatory step for redeployment.

Under the deal, the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be handed over fully and immediately to the Syrian government, both administratively and militarily. This includes the transfer of all civilian institutions and facilities in the two provinces.

The agreement stipulates that current employees in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be formally retained within the relevant Syrian state ministries, and that the government will not take punitive measures against SDF personnel or members of the civil administration in the two provinces.

It also stipulates the integration of all civilian institutions in Hasakah province into Syrian state institutions and administrative structures.

As part of the deal, the Syrian government will assume control of all border crossings and oil and gas fields in the region. These sites are to be secured by Syrian forces to ensure that revenues are returned to the state.
