Türkiye's Ambassador to Malta Erdeniz Sen dies at 50

The Foreign Ministry has announced the passing of Ambassador Erdeniz Sen, who was serving as the ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Malta.
The official statement read: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ambassador Erdeniz Sen, a valued member of our diplomatic community, who was representing our state in Malta. He passed away on 19 May 2025."
According to the ministry, Ambassador Sen’s funeral will take place today at Ahmet Efendi Mosque in Ankara following the afternoon prayer.
Ambassador Sen had been receiving medical treatment in Ankara for some time.


Erdeniz Sen's career at Turkish Foreign Ministry

Born on July 12, 1974, in Ankara, Erdeniz Sen graduated from the faculty of political science at Ankara University in 1996. The same year, he joined the Turkish Foreign Ministry and held various positions in both domestic and overseas missions.
In the ministry’s central administration, he last served as deputy director general for Foreign Policy Coordination.

He also held positions within the presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and the office of the speaker of the Turkish Parliament.
His overseas postings included assignments at the embassies of Türkiye in Bahrain, Rome, and Washington, D.C., as well as serving as the consul general of Türkiye in Toronto.
Erdeniz Sen was appointed as Türkiye's ambassador to Valletta by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Dec. 9, 2022.
He officially assumed his duties on Feb. 23, 2023, after presenting his letter of credence to then-President of Malta, George Vella.
Ambassador Sen is survived by his wife, Deniz Sahinbas Sen, and their two children.
