Türkiye's Aselsan showcases advanced electronic warfare, radar payloads

Turkish defense giant Aselsan showcased new electronic warfare (EW) and radar systems integrated into Baykar's Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during a live demonstration in Konya, central Türkiye, attended by defense delegations from 18 countries.

Two Bayraktar TB2 drones were fitted with Aselsan's new payloads for the demonstration: one carried the Antidot 2ES 100 electronic support pod alongside the Antidot 2EA 200 electronic warfare pod, while the second was equipped with a Fulmar 200 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) pod.

First phase: Detection and autonomous electronic strike

In the first phase of the exercise, the Antidot system detected a live target radar system mid-flight and pinpointed its location.

After the electronic support pod relayed the target data, the Antidot system executed an autonomous electronic strike against the target, allowing the TB2 equipped with the Antidot systems to approach without being detected.

Second phase: Antidot-Fulmar interoperability

In the second phase, the Antidot system detected a separate target and determined its position, then shared the target's location data with the Fulmar 200 pod.

The Fulmar system generated a high-resolution SAR image, capturing the target's location with high precision.

Together, the two tests combined detection and positioning, electronic attack, and high-resolution imaging capabilities into a single operational cycle across the two drones.

The demonstration marked the first time the Antidot family of systems was tested against real radar systems aboard the Bayraktar TB2 platform, while also successfully showcasing interoperability between the Antidot and Fulmar systems.

How the systems work

The Antidot 2ES 100 electronic support system can detect, identify and digitally record signals from threat air defense radars, precisely determining a threat's direction and location. It transmits all data deemed necessary to the user in real time to the ground control station via the aircraft's communications band.

The Antidot 2EA 200, which combines electronic support and electronic attack capabilities, is compact, lightweight and optimized for low power consumption, allowing easy integration into unmanned aerial vehicles.

It detects adversary air defense systems and their direction, measuring the signal characteristics of search and tracking radars in detail to identify threats. Operating fully autonomously, the system attacks air defense radars using preloaded electronic attack techniques.

According to Aselsan's technical specifications, the system weighs 45 kilograms and operates on 1,100 watts of power, and can be integrated into any unmanned aerial vehicle capable of carrying MAM-L munitions, with the choice of mounting ammunition or a pod on any given pylon left to the user before a mission.

The Fulmar 200 is a lightweight, compact, low-power next-generation SAR system developed for reconnaissance and surveillance on both manned and unmanned aircraft.

Built on an active electronically scanned array (AESA) architecture, it can perform Spotlight and Stripmap SAR imaging functions in all weather conditions, day or night.

Its pod-based design allows it to be mounted under a wing or integrated into an aircraft's airframe, enabling it to operate alongside existing electro-optical and infrared camera systems.

The Bayraktar TB2 platform

The Bayraktar TB2 is a combat-proven Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle developed for intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance missions, featuring a triple-redundant autopilot system and fully autonomous taxi, takeoff, cruise and landing capabilities.

The platform has logged more than 1.25 million operational flight hours and has been deployed across conflict theaters including Nagorno-Karabakh, Libya, Syria and Ukraine.

It has a service ceiling of 20,000 feet, an operational altitude of 16,000 feet, a maximum takeoff weight of 700 kilograms, a payload capacity of 150 kilograms, and an endurance exceeding 18 hours, with a flight endurance record of 27 hours and 3 minutes.
