Turkish defense electronics company Aselsan signed its first technology transfer (ToP) agreement in South Africa with PAMODZI Group, according to the company's official July bulletin.

The agreement enables local production of Aselsan-developed ASTELA P25 3710 handheld radios in South Africa using domestic capabilities, as detailed in the 85th issue of Aselsan's bulletin.

"This strategic cooperation, which will enable local production of the ASTELA P25 3710 handheld radio developed by Aselsan, reflects the company’s deepening relationships in international markets and its regional partnership model," Aselsan said in the bulletin.

Knowledge-based cooperation with local impact

Aselsan's partnerships with local partners in the region represent not only commercial expansion but also direct support for African countries to develop their own defense infrastructure.

"The strategic cooperation that will enable local production of the ASTELA P25 3710 handheld radio developed by Aselsan in South Africa has become an important step reflecting Aselsan's deepening relationships in international markets and regional partnership model," the company stated.

"The contract covers not only product export but also sharing production capability and engineering knowledge with local structures. Aselsan's high-technology ASTELA P25 radio family provides solutions to critical communication needs in security and public services while aiming to develop sustainable operational capabilities through local production."

Enhancing regional capacity since 2011

Aselsan established its South Africa office in 2011 and has since pursued a strategy of offering region-specific solutions. Over the years, it has evolved from a system supplier to a broader development partner through training, technical support, and joint ventures with local stakeholders.

The company reiterated its commitment to capacity development in Africa beyond product and system supply.

"Aselsan, which has the capacity to develop solutions for region-specific needs through its South Africa office established in 2011, attaches great importance not only to product and system supply in its activities on the African continent but also to capacity development through training, technical support and local cooperations," according to the statement.

"Aselsan contributes to strengthening the defense industries of African countries and ensuring their national security while increasing its effectiveness in the region through cooperation with local partners in South Africa," the company's statement noted.
