Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli issued a written statement Monday celebrating the terrorist group PKK's decision to dissolve itself, calling it a historic moment for Türkiye after nearly five decades of conflict.
"The PKK calamity will come to an end. The bloody page that has been written with treachery for 47 years will, I hope and wish, be closed, never to be opened again," Bahceli stated.
The declaration comes hours after the PKK announced its formal dissolution during its 12th Congress held earlier today.
Bahceli, who played a visible role in the process through public appeals made in October, emphasized the significance of this development for Türkiye's future.
"The seeds of peace that have been sown with effort, patience and sacrifice in every region of the Turkish homeland have been watered with hope, finally budded and blossomed," said Bahceli.
In his statement, the MHP leader framed the moment as transformative for the nation: "The Republic of Türkiye stands at a historic threshold with its clear fortune and moral assets accumulated over centuries."
The dissolution marks a potential conclusion to a conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of lives since the PKK began its armed campaign in 1978.
