Türkiye's Manisa mayor dies after electrocution accident at home pool

Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek died from injuries sustained in an electrocution accident at his residence, Health Minister Memisoglu announced following the mayor's hospitalization and treatment.

The 48-year-old mayor was electrocuted around 11:35 p.m. local time while investigating a suspected electrical fault in his pool's motor system at his home. Family members immediately shut off electrical breakers and called emergency services after hearing distress sounds.

Emergency teams perform 70-minute resuscitation effort

Medical teams found Zeyrek unconscious with no pulse and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 70 minutes before successfully restoring his heartbeat. He was transported to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital in critical condition.

Provincial Health Director Dr. Mehmet Fatih Zeren had confirmed that emergency teams reached the scene within minutes of receiving the electrocution report. "Our teams arrived within minutes. Intervention was made, and it was observed that there was no consciousness. He was brought to the hospital with cardiac massage. He was taken to intensive care with initial intervention. The necessary treatment continues, but his condition is critical," Dr. Zeren had stated.

"His heart had stopped. It came back with cardiac massage. He is currently sedated," he had added at the time.
