An object assessed to possibly be an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fell into a hazelnut orchard Saturday in Türkiye’s northwestern Duzce province, officials said.
The object was found in Yesilkoy village in the Akcakoca district, which lies on Türkiye’s Black Sea coast.
The Duzce Governor’s Office said a judicial investigation had been launched and examinations were continuing.
It said there was no adverse situation that would require public concern.
In a statement, the governor’s office said authorities received a report at around 11:30 a.m. local time that a suspicious object had fallen into a hazelnut orchard in Yesilkoy village.
Security units were dispatched to the area after the report, and the scene was brought under control after necessary precautions were taken.
“As a result of assessments carried out by our relevant units, the object in question is assessed to possibly be an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV),” the statement said.
“Expert teams are continuing their work to definitively determine the nature and technical characteristics of the object,” it added.
The governor’s office said the Duzce Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had launched a judicial investigation into the incident.
It said examinations were being carried out meticulously.
“There is no adverse situation that our citizens should be concerned about,” the statement said.
Similar discoveries washing ashore have become increasingly frequent in Türkiye since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Duzce is located in northwestern Türkiye, bordering the Black Sea, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) east of Istanbul.
