Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has sparked backlash after claiming that some Eastern European migrants, particularly Romanians, have been killing and eating swans in London’s Royal Parks.
He made the statement during an interview on LBC radio, Farage specifically singled out Romanians, claiming such actions were part of their cultural habits.
The Royal Parks charity quickly dismissed the claims. A spokesperson said, “We have had no reports of anyone harming or eating swans in any of London’s eight Royal Parks.” The charity emphasized its ongoing work with the Swan Sanctuary to ensure the birds are protected.
Farage’s comments bear resemblance to unfounded statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that some migrant communities in the U.S. ate cats and dogs, specifically Haitians. Critics say such rhetoric can inflame tensions and spread fear about minority communities.
Labour MPs, condemned the remarks as “wild conspiracy theories,” accusing Farage of deliberately stirring division and mistrust in communities. They said his comments undermine social cohesion and create unnecessary alarm.
