Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen will feature in the starting eleven for the crucial Champions League clash against Liverpool on Tuesday, September 30, Turkish media reports.
The Nigerian forward had been sidelined since sustaining an injury during the Nigeria-Burundi World Cup qualifier on September 6.
Osimhen last played for Galatasaray in the match against Rize before missing subsequent games due to the injury. He is expected to make his comeback for the high-profile European fixture, providing a major boost to the team’s attacking options.
Galatasaray will not risk Osimhen in the domestic league match against Alanya. The forward will continue training intensively to be physically ready for the Liverpool match. From Saturday onwards, he will join the team for three tactical training sessions aimed at preparing him for the upcoming challenge.
Osimhen suffered the injury in the 35th minute of the Nigeria-Burundi match at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, after a challenge with an opposing defender left him with a wrist impact. He was forced to leave the field and was replaced by Cyriel Dessers. Following the match, Osimhen was flown back to Istanbul for detailed medical evaluation by the Galatasaray medical team.
Diagnosis and treatment
Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen sustained a moderate ligament strain and internal bleeding in his wrist. Club physician Op. Dr. Yener Ince immediately started treatment and estimated a return to play in approximately three weeks. During this period, Osimhen missed Super Lig matches against Eyupspor and Konyaspor, as well as Galatasaray’s 5-1 Champions League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
