The U.S. Embassy in Ankara has issued a security alert for American government personnel in Türkiye following recent developments after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s subsequent retaliatory attacks.
There has been no incident reported near US Missions in Türkiye following the US-Israeli attacks on Iran.
In a written statement published on its official website, the embassy announced that U.S. government employees in Türkiye have been instructed to avoid travel to the U.S. Consulate Adana district, which covers 22 provinces in the country’s southeastern region.
“Due to regional developments, U.S. government personnel in Türkiye have been directed to avoid personal travel to the U.S. Consulate Adana district, which includes 22 provinces in southeastern Türkiye,” the statement said.
The embassy warned that negative perceptions of U.S. foreign policy could lead to anti-U.S. or anti-Western demonstrations and rhetoric within Türkiye.
“Large gatherings may result in increased police presence, road closures, and traffic disruptions,” the statement noted. “Even gatherings intended to be peaceful can quickly escalate into violence.”
The alert also cautioned that ongoing military activity in the Middle East could disrupt international travel, including air travel to and from Türkiye.
In the “Actions to Take” section of the advisory, the embassy urged personnel to avoid travel to southeastern Türkiye, including areas bordering Iran, Iraq, and Syria. It also advised exercising caution in locations closely associated with the United States or Israel, as well as venues frequented by Western nationals, and to stay away from protest areas.
