Falling debris from intercepted Iranian drones caused small fires at the Burj Al Arab hotel and Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, local authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Dubai’s government said air defense systems shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle, and debris from the interception sparked small fires at both sites. Civil defense teams responded quickly, contained the blazes and reported no injuries.
Opened in December 1999, the Burj Al Arab rises about 321 meters (1,053 feet) above the Arabian Gulf from its artificial island off Jumeirah Beach, making it one of the tallest hotels in the world.
Jebel Ali Port is the largest seaport in the Middle East and serves as a key trade gateway linking Asia, Europe and Africa. Located southwest of central Dubai, it operates alongside the Jebel Ali Free Zone, a major logistics and industrial hub.
Earlier on Saturday, Iranian attacks hit several parts of the UAE, especially the capital Abu Dhabi, killing one person.
The incidents followed joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran early the previous day, despite ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian authorities said sites across 24 provinces were hit, including the capital Tehran as well as Isfahan, Karaj, Qom, Tabriz, Bushehr and Kermanshah.
In response, Iran’s military said it launched ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel and carried out missile and so-called kamikaze drone attacks against U.S. bases and targets in Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan.
Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it would launch retaliatory strikes "within a short time" against Israel and U.S. bases in the region.
