Türkiye’s Eastern Express (“Dogu Ekspresi”) will run 70 trips on the Ankara-Kars-Ankara line during the 2026-2027 winter season, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced in a written statement.
The service will operate 35 trips in each direction.
Trains from Ankara, the capital, to Kars, a city in Türkiye’s far northeast near the Armenian border, will run from Dec. 21, 2026, to March 10, 2027. Trains from Kars to Ankara will run from Dec. 23, 2026, to March 12, 2027.
“We will start ticket sales for our individual passengers on Oct. 26,” Uraloglu said. Tickets will be available through TCDD Tasimacilik sales channels.
Trains will depart Ankara for Kars on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Trains from Kars to Ankara will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The route includes sightseeing stops that allow passengers to see cities along the line. On the Ankara-Kars leg, the train will stop in Erzincan and Erzurum, two cities in eastern Türkiye.
On the return leg from Kars, the train will stop in Ilic, a town in Erzincan Province; Divrigi, a town in Sivas Province; and Sivas, a city in central Türkiye.
The train will consist of sleeping cars and a dining car. Each sleeping car has 10 compartments, each with two beds.
The ministry presents the Tourist Eastern Express as a rail service that combines travel with visits to places along the route.
