Three Kuwaiti soldiers were injured by shrapnel when a base housing U.S. personnel was targeted earlier on Saturday, a Kuwaiti Defense Ministry spokesman said, as Iran carried out retaliatory strikes in the Gulf following U.S. and Israeli attacks.
“Shrapnel fell at Ali Al Salem Air Base after air defense forces engaged ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in minor injuries to three members of the armed forces and some material damage,” said Colonel Saud Al-Atwan.
It was not immediately clear whether the three soldiers were included in the overall injury toll reported earlier.
Kuwait’s Health Ministry had previously said that 12 people were injured during and in the aftermath of the strikes.
The strikes also hit Kuwait International Airport, the civil aviation authority said, causing minor injuries.
Iran carried out retaliatory strikes across much of the oil-rich Gulf in response to U.S. and Israeli attacks, unsettling a region long viewed as a haven of peace and security.
All Gulf countries were affected by the strikes except Oman, which has served as a mediator in the U.S.-Iran talks.
