The official Algerian Press Service (APS) condemned the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya channel for broadcasting a video of late Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, which the agency described as “misleading content.”
Al Arabiya aired a video claiming that Nasser had downplayed Algeria’s role in the 1967 war.
Under the headline "Who Fears Full Understanding Between Algeria and Cairo," APS attacked the Al Arabiya channel.
The agency dismissed the purported recording as nothing more than a “digital fabrication using artificial intelligence techniques.”
”No such remarks exist in Nasser’s speeches or in the global press archives,” APS said.
The agency described Al Arabiya’s broadcast as a “blatant falsification of history” and an attempt to sow discord between the Algerian and Egyptian peoples.
The statement underscored that Nasser was among Algeria’s staunchest supporters following its independence, adding that the shared historical memory between the two nations cannot be erased.
It also recalled Algeria’s prominent role in the 1973 October War.
This was achieved through both military and financial support, highlighting the late President Houari Boumediene’s historic initiative to finance Egypt’s arms purchases.
APS said that Al Arabiya’s attempt to fabricate a rift between Algeria and Egypt is nothing more than a malicious scheme aimed at undermining two fundamental pillars of the Arab and African worlds.
”The objective is clear: to erode the shared historical memory and distort the bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples,” APS confirmed.
As for the party benefiting from such intrigue, it is evident—our western neighbor, which has not hesitated to pursue normalization with the Zionist entity.
The agency also denounced remarks from certain Algerian figures, accusing the channel of taking them out of context to construct a divisive narrative aligned with foreign political agendas.
APS concluded by affirming that “history cannot be falsified,” stressing that Algerian-Egyptian relations, forged in shared struggle and sacrifice, remain impervious to distortion efforts.
