Arab countries called for the immediate cessation of Israel's war in the Gaza Strip, which has continued for nearly two years, describing it as genocide during a United Nations Security Council open session.
Kuwait Crown Prince Sabah Khalid al-Hamed al-Sabah addressed the U.N. Security Council on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries during a session to discuss the Middle East situation, including the Palestinian issue.
Crown Prince al-Sabah said the session was being held because the Gaza tragedy had continued for nearly two years.
During this time, the defenseless Palestinian people have faced the most horrific suffering under a suffocating and unjust siege, widespread destruction, and the loss of more than 60,000 innocent civilians, mostly women and children.
Emphasizing that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is "a living example of genocide and ethnic cleansing" and an open wound that cannot be ignored, al-Sabah called on the U.N. Security Council to immediately halt attacks on Gaza, urgently provide access to humanitarian aid, and turn words into practical action to protect civilians.
Egypt's U.N. Permanent Representative Osama Abdelkhalek said his country gives importance to staying away from many of Israel's provocations because it believes in the necessity of achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Abdelkhalek stated Israel has a stubborn attitude regarding the continuation of the war in Gaza, emphasizing that ending the catastrophic environment in the Gaza Strip has become an absolute necessity.
Palestine's U.N. Permanent Representative Riyad Mansour said, "Palestinians are not inferior beings. We deserve life, freedom, and dignity. The atrocities committed by Israel against our people in Gaza cannot be justified in any way."
Noting that Palestinians and Israelis should not be condemned to perpetual war, Mansour stated: "No genocide, no usurpation, no forced displacement, no colonialism, no annexation, no occupation, save Gaza, save Palestine, save peace."
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said in his speech, "What is happening in Gaza is unprecedented in terms of brutality and barbarism, but the goals are clear: to destroy Palestinian society and make all its territories uninhabitable, forcing the population to migrate outside the Gaza Strip."
"I say clearly, surrendering to this ruthless and insane plan will largely eliminate the Council's legitimacy and weaken its role in ensuring international peace and security. What happens in Gaza will not stay in Gaza," Aboul Gheit warned.
Drawing attention to the fact that it is time for the U.N. Security Council to make a morally correct and practical decision to stop this war, Aboul Gheit said, "Let us stop the war today, before tomorrow, and immediately begin rebuilding Gaza and returning its children to the childhood they deserve."
French President Emmanuel Macron announced his country has adopted a "credible peace plan" for Gaza following France's decision to recognize the State of Palestine.
Speaking at the U.N.'s 80th General Assembly in New York, Macron described widespread global and local conflicts, violations of the Geneva Conventions, uncontrolled climate change, and collapsing biodiversity.
Macron said global trade has been shaken and customs wars have increased, stating: "We need more than ever to re-establish the spiritual cooperation built 80 years ago, yet we isolate ourselves."
Macron emphasized that the international community must work together to ensure a return to collective multilateralism.
Stressing the need to prevent human rights violations at a time when conflicts are increasing, Macron said: "Our duty is to ensure respect for international humanitarian law."
In this context, Macron said support should be given to the International Criminal Court's fight against impunity.
Emphasizing they adopted a credible peace plan "to end the war in Gaza, preserve the two-state solution of Israel and Palestine, ensure the release of all hostages, and save many lives" at yesterday's Palestine conference under U.N. auspices, Macron noted many countries signed the New York Declaration.
"We joined hands to open the way to a Palestinian state that recognizes Israel and to an Israeli state that recognizes the Palestinian state."
We hope that all states in the region that have not yet done so will recognize the Israeli state through this mutual recognition, which is actually a path to peace," Macron said.
