Türkiye and Azerbaijan signed contracts for 14 Hurkus-II trainer aircraft and a range of defense systems worth more than $500 million at the Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition (ADEX 2026) in Baku, Turkish Defense Industries President Haluk Gorgun said.

"Fourteen of our Hurkus-II aircraft will be delivered to Azerbaijan. Deliveries to Azerbaijan will take place very quickly this year, just as they will for our air force," he said.

The deal comes days after the Turkish Air Force (TAF) received its first two Hurkus-II trainers, when Gorgun said export news would follow "very soon."

What Türkiye's ADEX package includes

The package covers procurement contracts with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) for Hurkus aircraft, Baykar for Mizrak smart loitering munitions and Antidot systems, and Roketsan for the Barbaros coastal defense system.

Aselsan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ALP-100 radar systems.

"I wish these agreements, with a total value exceeding $500 million, every success for our two brotherly countries," he said.

He said the two countries, which stand by each other "during natural disasters, wars, and other times of need," are cooperating in defense for regional peace and stability under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"With Azerbaijan, we are moving forward with a model that defines real needs well, does the work ourselves, reduces foreign dependency, makes production cost-effective, accelerates it and can build the infrastructure and human resources to lay the groundwork for next-generation work," Gorgun told Türkiye's state-run Anadolu Agency (AA).

"We are working together with a method that will complement each other and raise our technological capabilities to the next levels," he said, adding that the aim is to expand cooperation to members of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

Barbaros to become Azerbaijan's 'new guardian on the coasts'

Roketsan's Barbaros is a mobile coastal defense system that operates with Atmaca and Cakir cruise missiles and can be integrated into a central battle management system.

"We are very pleased that our Barbaros Coastal Defense System will join the inventory of the Azerbaijani army. With its features, Barbaros will have a strategic role as Azerbaijan's new guardian on the coasts," Turkish defense firm Roketsan's General Manager Murat Ikinci stated.

"I wish this important agreement to be beneficial to our friendly and brotherly country Azerbaijan and to our Turkish defense industry," he added.

Aselsan factory planned in Nakhchivan

Aselsan and Azerbaijan's NOVASIS signed a preliminary agreement to set up a factory in Nakhchivan.

Other agreements include academic cooperation between Türkiye's Council of Higher Education, the Defense Industries Presidency, and Azerbaijani ministries, and partnerships involving Bogazici Defense, Kayi Defense, MKE, and Otokar with Azerbaijani firms.

"We will train our engineers together with brotherly Azerbaijan. Local production and joint projects will be steps that strengthen our bonds of brotherhood," Gorgun said.

The Hurkus-II deliveries to Azerbaijan are set to begin this year.
