Bahrain said an Iranian drone attack caused material damage to a water desalination plant, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.
The ministry said the strike targeted civilian infrastructure.
“Iranian aggression indiscriminately attacked civilian targets and caused material damage to a water desalination plant following a drone attack,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
There was no immediate comment from Iran following Bahrain’s announcement.
The incident came a day after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned what he described as a U.S. strike on a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
“The U.S. committed a blatant and desperate crime by attacking a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island,” Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X.
He said water supply in 30 villages had been impacted and warned that attacking Iran’s infrastructure was “a dangerous move with grave consequences.”
Araghchi added that the U.S. had set the precedent.
The attacks come as water infrastructure emerges as a target in the widening Middle East conflict.
Most Gulf countries largely depend on desalinated water for their inhabitants’ consumption.
