Bulgaria will increase capacity at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing opposite Türkiye’s Kapikule gate, aiming to reduce congestion and waiting times for passenger vehicles and trucks, officials said.
Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer met Bulgarian National Customs Agency President Nikolay Shushkov and an accompanying delegation to discuss renovation and construction work at the border crossing.
According to a statement from the Edirne Governor’s Office, the meeting was held at the Joint Contact Point and focused on plans to increase Kapitan Andreevo’s crossing capacity.
Officials also reviewed customs operations and procedures for vehicles passing through the border gates.
Following the meeting, Sezer and Shushkov visited the Kapitan Andreevo crossing with their delegations to inspect the ongoing work and receive information from officials.
The capacity increase is intended to ease congestion and shorten waiting times for passenger vehicles during the expatriate travel season.
It is also expected to reduce delays for trucks using the crossing throughout the year.
