Cargo ship reports attack by 'unknown assailants' off Yemen's Red Sea coast

A cargo vessel triggered a distress alert Sunday reporting an attack by unknown armed assailants 30 nautical miles southwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center said.

UKMTO issued Warning 079-26 at 07:19 UTC, citing a report from local authorities.

"A cargo vessel has triggered a distress alert stating that they are under attack by unknown armed assailants," UKMTO said on X.

Authorities are investigating the incident, UKMTO said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

UKMTO advised all vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.

The incident occurred 30 nautical miles, approximately 55 kilometers, southwest of the Yemeni Red Sea port of Al Hudaydah. The location falls within an area where maritime security has remained a concern.

No further details on the vessel, its flag, cargo, or crew were immediately available.
