An Iranian Revolutionary Guards official said on Wednesday that the possibility of a renewed war with the U.S. was low, while warning that Iran’s armed forces were ready to respond to any attack.

Mohammad Akbarzadeh, deputy political chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, said the likelihood of war was limited because of what he described as the weakness of the enemy, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

“The possibility of war is low because of the enemy’s weakness, the armed forces are lying in wait with full magazines,” Akbarzadeh was quoted as saying.

Iran warns against any attack

Akbarzadeh said Iran was prepared to defend its southern coast, naming areas stretching from Chabahar to Mahshahr.

“Do not doubt that we will turn the area from Chabahar to Mahshahr into a graveyard for aggressors,” he said.

The remarks came as Iranian officials continued to signal that Tehran does not expect a renewed conflict with the U.S., while emphasizing readiness for any military confrontation.

Velayati points to Strait of Hormuz

Ali Akbar Velayati, a former foreign minister and adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader on international affairs, also issued warnings in a post on U.S. social media platform X.

Velayati said history showed that “all invaders who came with dreams of domination, from Alexander to Genghis and Trump,” were “digested in the rich stomach of Iranian civilization.”

He said being a nation was “an authentic, deep-rooted civilizational essence,” not something that could be “bought or rented with petrodollars.”

In a second post, Velayati said Iran’s red line was clear and that “papers and signatures are not guarantees.”

“The tangible guarantor of the agreement’s survival is the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, adding that “geography does not lie” and was “the final judge of treaties on paper.”
