A political controversy has started in Greek Cyprus after it was revealed that newly elected Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and popular YouTuber Fidias Panayiotou interviewed with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar, which has not yet been released.
The Greek Cypriot government strongly criticized the meeting, which is said to have taken place at the official office of the TRNC president in North Nicosia.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said he was "sorry" about the situation and said it helps spread "the unacceptable message of the occupying regime."
The video was first shared by Turkish Cypriot influencer "Urban Cypriot" and quickly spread across social media.
In the short clips, Panayiotou is seen meeting Tatar inside what appears to be the TRNC presidential office in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
So far, Panayiotou has not made any public comment regarding the backlash or his reasons for conducting the interview.
