Egypt is seeking to accelerate energy projects with Libya, including gas pipeline connections, refining Libyan crude in Egypt, and an electricity interconnection, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said, according to a ministry statement cited by Reuters.
Abdelatty made the remarks after meeting Libya’s acting oil and gas minister, Khalifa Abdulsadek, in Tripoli on Saturday.
Egypt has been facing energy pressure linked to insufficient domestic gas production and higher global liquefied natural gas prices since the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
Abdelatty called for greater cooperation on petroleum products and for the completion of projects to refine Libyan crude in Egypt before re-exporting it.
According to the statement, Abdulsadek said Libya would continue implementing existing projects and planned to visit Cairo soon for further technical discussions with Egypt’s petroleum and electricity ministers.
The statement did not provide details on the cost or current status of the projects.
