President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has invited U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the signing ceremony of a Gaza ceasefire agreement, should one be reached.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during the graduation ceremony of a new class of police academy students, with the attendance of top officials and graduates’ families at the Police Academy in New Cairo.

President Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian cause, pointing to the situation in Gaza, which has been enduring a severe conflict for nearly two years.

He emphasized that Egypt has consistently engaged positively with the Palestinian issue, not only in recent years but over the past decades.

The president referred to the ongoing negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh aimed at ending the war, calling on all parties to support them.

Sisi praises Trump’s bold push to end Gaza conflict

President Sisi expressed his profound respect for Trump for his genuine commitment to ending the war during the current round of negotiations.

"And I say this because it is a responsibility, and I am always keen to support any effort made and to cooperate in finding a solution to this issue," the president said.

President Sisi announced that the results achieved so far in the negotiations were “highly encouraging,” noting that he wanted to share this with the Egyptian people and the world.

He noted that the negotiations involve delegations from the United States, Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and Hamas, and described the progress made so far as encouraging and worthy of appreciation.

President Sisi concluded his speech by inviting President Trump to attend the signing ceremony of the ceasefire agreement, stressing that his attendance “would be a highly positive step.”

Indirect negotiations

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Egypt began on Monday evening at Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

The negotiations aim to reach an agreement on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange based on a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

International attention is mounting as the negotiations gain momentum, with senior delegations from Türkiye, Qatar, and the United States joining on Wednesday, raising expectations that a clearer outcome may soon be reached.

On Sept. 29, Trump unveiled a 20-point plan, including a prisoner exchange, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.
