The head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, Major General Hassan Rashad, traveled to Israel on Tuesday for an urgent visit to discuss ways to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Al-Qahera News channel reported.
The visit aims to hold meetings with several Israeli officials to advance the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan.
According to the channel, Major General Rashad will also discuss with Israeli officials the entry of humanitarian aid.
In a separate report, Cairo News added that the Egyptian intelligence chief is also scheduled to meet with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, who is currently visiting Israel.
Egypt was among the mediators who played a role in reaching the agreement that ended the Gaza war.
Recently, the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh hosted an international peace conference attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, who presented a proposal to end the war.
At the same time, Egypt has been pushing for the prompt adoption of a United Nations Security Council resolution to establish a peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip, according to Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
