Erdogan 'saddened' by Khamenei's death, says Türkiye's efforts will continue

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday he was saddened by the death of Iran’s Religious Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following the attacks that took place on Feb. 28.

In a post on social media, Erdogan conveyed his condolences on behalf of Türkiye and the Turkish nation.

“I was saddened by the death of our neighbor Iran’s Religious Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of the attacks that took place yesterday,” Erdogan said.

He extended his condolences to the Iranian people and prayed for mercy for Khamenei.

Türkiye to continue diplomatic efforts

Erdogan said Türkiye will continue its efforts with determination to ensure that the Iranian people, along with all friends and brothers in the region, regain the peace and stability they deserve.

He added that Türkiye will persist in its efforts to end the ongoing conflict in the region and to facilitate a return to diplomacy.
