Several explosions were heard Saturday evening on Iran’s Qeshm Island and near Jask Port in Hormozgan province, Iranian news agencies reported. The source and nature of the blasts have not been disclosed.

IRNA, Iran’s state news agency, said two explosions were heard on the eastern side of Qeshm Island. Shortly afterward, it said, several more were heard near Jask Port.

Fars News Agency, citing local sources, separately reported several explosions in Qeshm and Jask. It said the nature and exact locations of the blasts remained unclear.

The initial reports gave no details on casualties or damage, and no official explanation had been offered.

Qeshm is the largest island in the Persian Gulf and lies off Iran’s southern coast near the Strait of Hormuz. Jask is a port town on the Gulf of Oman.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
