Israeli protesters gathered in central Tel Aviv Tuesday, raising sacks of flour on their shoulders in a symbolic act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
The demonstrators called for an immediate end to the war on Gaza and the deadly famine that continues to claim lives across the besieged enclave. The march, organized by the Jewish-Arab movement Standing Together, was intended to oppose Israel's role in the starvation and devastation in Gaza.
"You can't win a war at the expense of children's lives," a young woman chanted through a megaphone in central Tel Aviv last night.
Gaza is enduring one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history, with famine spreading across the enclave amid ongoing genocide by Israel since Oct. 7, 2023.
Hospitals in the Gaza Strip have recorded 10 new deaths due to famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
This brings the total death toll from famine and malnutrition in Gaza to 111, including 80 children, underscoring the escalating humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory on July 22.
Earlier, medical sources told Anadolu that a diabetic patient, a child, and an infant also died after suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies.
Palestinian officials and rights groups have warned of a rising death toll from hunger, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, the sick, and the elderly.
“They tell us there’s no starvation, these are lies. There’s pictures here of kids starving,” one protester says in a video from earlier this evening, pointing back to the photos of malnourished children.
The United Nations children’s fund (UNICEF) has sounded the alarm over the deepening hunger crisis in Gaza, describing it as a “man-made disaster” and urging immediate international action.
In a statement shared Monday on X, UNICEF said starvation has become a “horrific reality” for children and families in the besieged enclave, as Israel’s ongoing blockade on humanitarian aid drives catastrophic levels of malnutrition.
“Hunger is widespread in Gaza and people are dying,” the agency warned, noting that “food is dangerously scarce, and clean water is below emergency levels.”
UNICEF highlighted that aid access remains severely restricted and extremely dangerous, with relief efforts hindered by continued Israeli bombardment. “Deadly malnutrition among children is reaching catastrophic levels,” the statement said.
