The former Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, had been subjected to an attempted "poisoning" in Moscow, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
The Observatory cited on Wednesday that a "private source," stating that Assad had suffered from poisoning and that "the party behind the attack aims to embarrass the Russian government and accuse it of carrying out his assassination."
The source indicated that the former Syrian president was discharged on Monday morning from a hospital in the suburbs of Moscow and that his health is now stable.
He confirmed that visits to Assad during his hospital treatment were permitted only for his brother Maher and the former Secretary-General for Presidential Affairs, Mansour Azzam.
In a sudden development on Dec. 8, 2024, former Syrian president al-Assad and his family fled Syria after opposition forces took control of Damascus, leading to a rapid collapse of the previous regime’s strongholds.
According to media reports, Assad has been residing in Moscow for several months.
