German police arrested two men in Leipzig after seizing multiple firearms and drugs, prompting prosecutors to investigate whether the suspects may have been planning attacks and whether there are links to the terrorist organization PKK.

Police stopped a taxi in Leipzig on Saturday, where a 23-year-old man, identified as Numan K., attempted to flee before being detained, authorities said. Officers discovered five unregistered 9 mm pistols and ammunition in a bag he was carrying, according to police cited by local media.

Following the arrest, investigators searched an apartment on Spohrstrasse in the Zentrum-Suedost district, where a second suspect, 56-year-old Metin B., was detained. Both men were ordered held in pretrial custody.

During the apartment search, authorities also seized about one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, German media outlet Bild reported, citing police and judicial sources.

German media described Numan K. as a Turkish national of Kurdish background. Prosecutors are examining whether the weapons cache was intended for attacks, with investigators also reviewing social media posts by Metin B. expressing support for Kurdish causes, Bild reported.

The investigation is also looking into whether the case has any connection to supporters of the PKK, which is banned in Germany, amid concerns about past clashes between PKK supporters and members of the Turkish community.

The PKK has been listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union since 2002.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed any specific attack targets or formally established membership in the PKK. The investigation remains ongoing.
