Hamas political bureau member Husam Badran said any international force deployed in the Gaza Strip should be limited to monitoring the ceasefire and ensuring civilian protection, as Palestinian factions presented a unified position on the issue during recent talks in Cairo.

Badran said that any international force deployed in the Gaza Strip must have a strictly limited mandate focused solely on monitoring the cease-fire and separating Palestinian civilians from the occupying forces.

He also stressed that turning such forces into a substitute for the occupation army or a tool to confront Palestinians is “unworkable and would only further complicate the situation.”

Badran said the Palestinian factions, including Fatah, presented a unified position in Cairo, stressing that their stance centers on protecting civilians and ending the aggression, not legitimizing any new foreign military presence.

He said the agreement was reached “after the world grew weary of the occupation’s conduct, including its own U.S. backers.”

Badran affirmed that the resistance acted with “political wisdom and realism,” adding that a national consensus, along with Arab and Islamic support, had reinforced this approach.

Hamas calls for unified stance

Badran said the current phase requires a unified Palestinian position, and that Hamas is holding contacts with various factions to find mechanisms to protect residents from settler attacks and actions by the occupation forces.

He affirmed that the resistance “will continue to defend its people with all available means,” adding that Palestinians will pay a price but will ultimately “win their rights, no matter how long it takes.”

Israeli forces withdrew from Tubas in the northern West Bank after a four-day military operation during which they raided Palestinian homes and destroyed their contents.

The operation resulted in over 166 Palestinians being injured. The Palestinian Prisoners Club recorded around 200 detentions, most of whom were released earlier, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Relations with Palestinian Authority

Regarding relations with the Palestinian Authority, Badran said there is no rupture, noting that meetings were held in Cairo with Hussein al-Sheikh, the deputy head of the Palestinian Authority, and Majed Faraj, the head of Palestinian intelligence, along with discussions on national challenges and ways to address them.

But the Hamas official added that the problems lie in the mechanisms of implementation and in unifying the Palestinian position.

Badran said the Palestinian Authority and Fatah are influential components, and that Hamas is keen to reach a minimum level of understanding in confronting the occupation.
