Yemen’s Houthis on Sunday claimed ballistic missile and drone attacks on facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco in Riyadh and the oil-rich Khurais area east of the capital, saying the strikes caused large fires at the targeted sites.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a video statement posted on U.S. social media platform X that the group carried out two military operations against Aramco facilities.
“Both operations successfully achieved their objectives,” Saree said, claiming the strikes were precise and caused large fires.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities or Aramco on the claims.
Saree said the operations were carried out in response to Saudi attacks, alleging that the kingdom had conducted 50 airstrikes and missile attacks over the previous 12 hours on Sanaa and the provinces of Al-Jawf, Taiz, Amran, Hajjah and Saada.
He also claimed Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks had totaled 1,460 since the escalation began, without specifying when that period started.
Saree threatened further missile and drone attacks against Saudi sites and oil facilities, saying Houthi operations would continue until the attacks stopped and what he described as a “blockade” on Yemen was lifted.
The Houthi announcement came after Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi declared comprehensive military operations against the group.
Al-Alimi said the operations were aimed at recapturing the remaining territory under Houthi control.
