Iran’s internet blackout has entered its 72nd day and is now in its third month, internet monitoring group NetBlocks said.

The blackout has surpassed 1,704 hours, according to the group.

“The unprecedented measure is well into its third month with no indication of a wider restoration as authorities bar the general public from international access,” NetBlocks said.

Restrictions began after US, Israel attacks

The ongoing restrictions have been in place since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28.

The blackout followed a shorter, separate internet shutdown in January during anti-government protests, which sparked a brutal crackdown by Iranian authorities.

NetBlocks said there was no indication of when wider internet access would be restored.

Iran has used shutdowns during unrest

Iran has repeatedly used internet shutdowns during periods of unrest.

During such shutdowns, access to the global internet is severely restricted or completely cut, making foreign websites and apps unreachable.

Authorities often keep parts of the domestic internet running during major shutdowns, allowing access to local banking and government services while cutting off communication with the outside world.
