Iran’s deputy foreign minister said Tehran remains committed to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, while signaling that new arrangements could be introduced due to ongoing regional tensions.

Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum that any changes would take into account security, safe passage and environmental concerns.

Iran rejects temporary ceasefire

Khatibzadeh said Iran would not accept a temporary ceasefire, insisting that any agreement must cover all conflict zones “from Lebanon to the Red Sea.”

“We are not accepting any temporary ceasefire,” he said, describing a comprehensive regional truce as a “red line” for Tehran.

He added that the ongoing cycle of conflict “should end here once and for all.”

On the Strait of Hormuz, Khatibzadeh said the waterway has historically remained open despite lying within Iran’s territorial waters.

He accused the United States and Israel of fueling instability that has disrupted global trade and the wider economy.

Khatibzadeh said a lasting resolution to the conflict, along with what he described as a shift away from “maximalist positions” by Washington, would ensure the strait remains a stable route for global commerce.

Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir has been in Tehran since Wednesday, meeting with Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Munir also held talks with senior military officials as part of mediation efforts to end the conflict.

Pakistan previously hosted negotiations after brokering a 14-day ceasefire between Washington and Tehran on April 8 following the U.S.-Israeli offensive on Iran that began Feb. 28.
