Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Tuesday that their forces had arrested 10 “foreign spies” as the war with Israel and the United States continued.
“Ten mercenary, treacherous elements were identified and arrested,” the Guards’ intelligence organization in the northeastern Razavi Khorasan province said, according to the ISNA news agency, without identifying their nationalities.
The Guards said four of those detained were gathering information “on sensitive sites and economic infrastructure,” while others were allegedly linked to a “monarchist terrorist group.”
No further details were immediately available on the identities or nationalities of those arrested.
The arrests come as hostilities have escalated since Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
The strikes have killed around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
Qatar said Tuesday it intercepted a missile attack after explosions were heard in Doha, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalist.
In nearby Dubai, an AFP journalist reported hearing three explosions after a mobile phone alert warned residents to “immediately seek a safe place” due to “potential missile threats.”
In Abu Dhabi, falling shrapnel from an intercepted missile killed a Pakistani national, authorities said.
An “unknown projectile” struck a tanker off the coast of Oman, a U.K. maritime agency said Tuesday, adding that there were no reported injuries and only “minor structural damage.”
Israel’s military said Tuesday it had launched a “wide-scale wave of strikes” in the Iranian capital Tehran and had begun targeting Hezbollah sites in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Lebanese state media later reported that Israeli strikes hit three neighborhoods in Beirut, including a residential apartment building.
An Ethiopian woman was wounded in the strikes, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
