Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Qatari mediators over a two-day plan concerning the Strait of Hormuz were continuing but had not yet produced a definitive result.

Speaking after a meeting of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Araghchi commented on a recent Iranian delegation’s visit to Qatar, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

“The talks are continuing, but we have not yet reached a definitive result because reaching a conclusion depends on the answers the other side gives to our questions,” Araghchi said.

He said the delegation traveled at the deputy foreign minister level to continue consultations with Qatari mediators who had held talks in Tehran in recent weeks.

No direct US negotiations planned

Araghchi stressed that the Qatar visit was not intended to include negotiations with the U.S.

He said discussions over the two-day plan were continuing through mediators and that Tehran remained committed to diplomatic efforts.

Araghchi said Iran hoped the other side would act rationally and choose diplomacy over other options.

Iran says prepared for all scenarios

Araghchi said Iran was prepared for all possible scenarios and pointed to instructions Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had given senior military commanders as demonstrating Tehran’s position.

He said the responsibilities of Iran’s armed forces were clear and argued that experience gained from the previous two wars had made the military significantly stronger.

Araghchi said Iran was prepared for both defense and diplomacy at the same time, adding that the path chosen by the U.S. would depend on Washington’s own approach.
