Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the United States is undermining the ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict by carrying out additional strikes on targets in southern Iran and sending what it described as contradictory messages.
"Unfortunately, the United States is damaging this diplomatic process through the contradictory messages it sends, its repeated shifts in positions and demands, and, worst of all, through repeated violations of the ceasefire," Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a video message carried by Iranian media.
"Diplomatic processes do not take place in a vacuum," Baghaei told reporters, arguing that negotiations require a minimum level of stability and conducive conditions to move forward.
"Any diplomatic process is damaged by the use of force and by resorting to unlawful actions on the ground," he added.
Baghaei also accused Israel of undermining diplomacy through what he described as repeated ceasefire violations in Lebanon.
The spokesman said Tehran would review the conditions for any future negotiations in light of the latest developments, but did not provide further details.
The remarks came after Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said early Wednesday that it launched retaliatory attacks on 21 American military targets at U.S. air and naval bases across the region.
In a statement, the IRGC claimed that long-range missiles destroyed four major targets at the Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, including hangars housing F-35 fighter jets and a command-and-control center.
Jordan's military, however, said it intercepted five missiles launched toward the Al-Azraq area, adding that its air defense systems destroyed the projectiles and that the falling debris caused neither casualties nor material damage.
The IRGC also said it launched a drone attack at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in response to what it described as American aggression.
It warned that its forces were prepared to deliver a "crushing and decisive" response to any further attacks and said U.S. forces would bear responsibility for the consequences.
Earlier, the IRGC also claimed it had shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone over Jam County in Iran's southern Bushehr province.
The developments came hours after the United States launched strikes on southern Iran.
In a separate statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and said the country's armed forces had "severely targeted U.S. bases and assets in the region that were the origin" of the latest strikes.
The ministry also called on countries in the region, "especially those on the southern shores" of the Gulf, to prevent the United States and Israel from using their territory or facilities to plan, execute or support military operations against Iran.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to self-defense, including by targeting the origin of the attacks, as well as the bases and logistical facilities used to execute and support aggressive operations" against its territory, the statement said.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) later announced the completion of what it described as "self-defense" strikes against Iran, saying U.S. fighter jets targeted Iranian air defense systems and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.
The region has remained on edge since the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, triggering Iranian retaliation against Israel and countries hosting U.S. military assets.
Although a temporary ceasefire took effect on April 8, negotiations have since stalled amid disputes over its implementation and renewed military escalation.
