AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Omer Celik said Iran targeting the territories of brotherly countries on the grounds that they host U.S. bases is “absolutely unacceptable.”

Speaking after a Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at party headquarters in Ankara, Celik said Iran must clearly distinguish between its right to self-defense and actions that could trigger a broader regional war.

“Iran’s launching missile attacks on the territories of brotherly countries by citing U.S. bases is absolutely unacceptable. This is an extremely wrong approach,” Celik said.

He added that exercising the right to self-defense in a way that targets third countries’ territories and risks igniting a regional war would add new dimensions to what he described as an unfolding catastrophe.

“Using the right to self-defense in a way that targets the territories of third countries and could trigger a regional war will add new dimensions to the disaster that some are trying to create,” he said.

Migration risk along Iran border

Celik also said authorities are closely monitoring the possibility of a large migration wave toward Türkiye’s border with Iran.

He said relevant state institutions are working in full coordination and making necessary preparations in case Türkiye faces a major influx from the Iranian border, in order to prevent any security risk to the country.

Celik noted that developments in the region are being evaluated intensively and that Türkiye’s position remains in favor of staying away from conflicts and supporting regional and global peace.
