Oil activities and projects in Iraq have largely come to a halt due to the ongoing war triggered by U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, according to Iraq’s Oil Ministry.
Deputy Oil Minister for Exports Basim Mohammed Hudayr said the current situation has significantly disrupted operations across the country’s energy sector.
Hudayr told the state news agency INA that “oil activities and projects have largely stopped due to the current situation imposed by the war.”
He said that if the conflict ends, production levels at oil fields could return to normal within a few days.
Hudayr added that gas projects have not completely stopped but their continuity and sustainability depend directly on the end of the war.
Hudayr said the biggest challenges are affecting construction projects, which rely entirely on imports and logistical support.
He noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz under current conditions presents a major obstacle to continuing these critical projects.
“The closure of the Strait of Hormuz poses a significant difficulty for sustaining these vital projects under current conditions,” he said.
