Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued Statement No. 50 on Sunday, declaring all Israeli and American universities in West Asia "legitimate targets."
Following a U.S.-Israeli airstrike on the Tehran University of Science and Technology, the IRGC warned staff, students, and residents within 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) of American universities in the region to evacuate immediately.
The IRGC also gave Washington until noon Monday, March 30, Tehran time, to officially condemn the bombing of Iranian universities or face strikes on its regional academic institutions.
The IRGC declared in its official statement: "From now on, all universities of the occupying regime and American universities in the West Asia region, until two universities are struck in retaliation for the destroyed Iranian universities, are our legitimate targets."
The IRGC issued an evacuation warning to all staff, faculty and students at American universities in the region and residents living nearby.
"We recommend that all staff, faculty and students of American universities in the region and residents of the surrounding environment keep a distance of one kilometer from the aforementioned universities to protect their lives," the statement said.
The IRGC gave the U.S. government a deadline to act, saying, "If the U.S. government wants its universities in the region to be limited to only two retaliatory strikes at this stage, it must officially condemn the bombing of universities no later than noon on Monday, March 30, Tehran time."
"If it wants its universities in the region to not be struck after that, it must stop its savage allied forces from attacking universities and research centers; otherwise, the threat stands and will be carried out," the statement added.
Iranian media reported Saturday that the University of Science and Technology in Tehran was struck during U.S.-Israeli attacks. Iran's Mehr News Agency reported the strike.
There has been no official statement on casualties or the extent of damage.
The Israeli army announced earlier that it launched a new wave of attacks on Tehran as part of joint operations with the United States.
Saeed Shemkadri, a faculty member in the university's electrical engineering department, was killed when his home was targeted in U.S.-Israeli attacks on March 23.
The U.S. and Israel have carried out an air offensive against Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
