Israel has captured a Hezbollah special forces member in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said, identifying the individual as a member of the Iran-backed group's Radwan force and accusing him of planning an imminent attack against Israeli soldiers.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Israeli military said the man was a member of Hezbollah's Radwan force, a special forces unit of the group.

The Israeli military claimed the individual was "planning an imminent attack against IDF soldiers."

It said the man surrendered and was then taken into custody.

"The terrorist surrendered, and the soldiers apprehended him. He was then transferred to Unit 504 for further questioning," the statement said.

Ceasefire nearing end

The capture comes as Israel and Lebanon move toward the end of their 10-day ceasefire, which is set to expire on April 26.

Both sides have sent envoys to Washington for U.S.-mediated talks.

Despite the ceasefire, both Israel and Hezbollah have violated the truce by firing on one another.

As the situation stands, the Israeli military is operating in southern Lebanon up to the Litani River, where it says it intends to establish a buffer zone to protect northern Israel from Hezbollah attacks.

The latest developments follow fighting that began on March 2, days after the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran.
