The Israeli military on Thursday warned residents in southern Beirut to evacuate areas it claims are located near Hezbollah-affiliated sites, signaling another imminent airstrike on the region despite an existing ceasefire agreement.
According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the Israeli army has launched warning strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Avichay Adraee, posted on social media that four buildings in the Haret Hreik, Hadas, and Bourj al-Barajneh neighborhoods had been identified as Hezbollah facilities. He shared a map pinpointing the alleged locations and called on civilians to leave the surrounding areas.
“You are located near facilities belonging to the terrorist organisation Hezbollah,” Adraee said in his message. “For your safety and the safety of your families, you are required to evacuate these buildings immediately and move away from them at a distance of no less than 300 meters.”.
These warnings come despite a ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon on November 27, 2024. While the accord included a commitment by Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory, the IDF reportedly continues to maintain positions at five locations along the border.
Israeli forces have previously entered border villages during ground operations and carried out airstrikes that have caused significant destruction in areas near the southern frontier. According to reports, drone attacks on vehicles and selected locations in southern Lebanon have persisted months after the truce.
