Israel’s military is preparing for a scenario in which a war with Iran and its allied groups could last at least a month, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported, citing an official from the Israeli General Staff.
According to the report, the official said Israel’s military leadership has increased readiness across multiple combat branches in anticipation of further escalation and the possible expansion of fighting in the coming weeks.
The preparations include strengthening air defense systems, deploying additional forces and preparing for prolonged military operations if current clashes continue or spread to additional fronts.
The remarks come as the Middle East faces a sharp escalation in tensions, with continued exchanges of strikes between Israel and Iran alongside rising security tensions on several fronts.
Regional tensions have surged since the United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Feb. 28.
The strikes have reportedly killed more than 1,200 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, more than 150 schoolgirls and several senior military officials.
Iran has responded with sweeping missile and drone barrages targeting U.S. bases, diplomatic facilities and military personnel across the region, as well as multiple Israeli cities.
At least seven U.S. service members have been killed in the attacks.
Observers say the Israeli military’s reference to preparations for a prolonged conflict reflects concerns within the country’s security establishment that the confrontation could evolve into a broader regional war lasting weeks or longer.
