Israel said Thursday it killed a commander from an Iranian unit known as the “Imam Hussein Division,” which it says operates under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force.
In a statement on Telegram, the Israeli military said the Israeli Air Force “struck and eliminated Ali Muslim Tabaja, a commander of the Iranian Imam Hussein Division.”
The military also claimed that “additional senior commanders were eliminated” in the strike, but did not provide further details.
According to the Israeli military, the Imam Hussein Division is a force used by the Quds Force to strengthen Iran’s regional network and carry out operations against Israeli forces and civilians.
It also alleged that the unit provides Hezbollah with significant military capabilities.
Regional tensions have intensified since Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
Those strikes have killed around 1,300 people and injured more than 10,000 others so far, according to Iranian authorities.
Tehran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
