Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said he has instructed the army to draw boundary markings along the “yellow line” in Gaza, part of the cease-fire and hostage exchange agreement currently in effect.
In a statement on social media platform X, Katz said the Israeli military will mark the dividing line separating areas under occupation from those where Palestinians remain.
Katz said he ordered the army to establish physical boundaries distinguishing the more than 50% of the Gaza Strip still under Israeli occupation from the remaining territory. He added that the markings would be made using equipment that ensures “permanent visibility.”
The defense minister also warned that Hamas members and Palestinians attempting to cross or violate the designated “yellow line” would be met with gunfire.
Meanwhile, Israel is preparing to extend the duration of compulsory military service from 32 months to 36 months, returning to the pre-2015 period.
According to Israeli media reports, the extension comes despite the ongoing cease-fire deal and amid rising military demands following multiple operations over the past two years.
Currently, Israeli men are required to serve 32 months and women 24 months in mandatory military service. The new law would increase men’s service to three years.
