Israeli intelligence agency Mossad Director David Barnea said Wednesday that Iran believes it can once again deceive the international community and sign a new nuclear agreement, but Israel will not allow it.
According to a statement released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Office, Barnea made the remarks during a ceremony honoring Mossad personnel in Jerusalem.
“Iran thinks it can deceive the world once again and sign another bad nuclear agreement; we will not allow this,” Barnea said.
Barnea alleged that Iran has not abandoned what he described as its ambition to destroy Israel.
He claimed Tehran has misled the international community over its nuclear program and enriched uranium to levels that cannot be explained except by a desire to acquire military nuclear capability.
“A state that has inscribed Israel’s destruction on its flag, deceived the world regarding nuclear weapons development, and enriched uranium to levels that can only be explained by a desire for military nuclear capacity is a state that, when given the opportunity, will break through its enemy’s defenses,” he said.
Barnea said Israel sees itself as responsible for preventing Iran’s nuclear program from becoming operational.
Referring to recent attacks involving Iran, he claimed that Israel-U.S. cooperation had dealt a “serious blow” to Iran’s nuclear program.
The Mossad chief also accused Iran of being behind plots targeting Jews worldwide, claiming that targeting civilians is part of Iran’s security strategy.
Iran has repeatedly denied accusations regarding nuclear weapons ambitions and says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
