Six people, including four children and a woman, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Shmustar in Lebanon’s eastern Baalbek district early Saturday, the Lebanese Health Ministry said in a statement.
The strike comes as Israel expands its military campaign in Lebanon, which intensified earlier this week following limited rocket fire by Hezbollah amid broader regional tensions linked to the war waged by Israel and the United States against Iran.
Israel has killed more than 4,000 people and wounded around 17,000 during its offensive in Lebanon, which began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024.
Despite a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah that has been in place since November 2024, Israeli forces have continued near-daily strikes that have left hundreds of people dead and wounded.
Meanwhile, Iran launched missiles and drones on Feb. 28 toward Israel and several Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
Some of the attacks caused casualties and damage to civilian sites, including ports and residential buildings.
Tehran said the strikes were carried out in response to a U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran that has killed hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials.
